“And I am confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
God can be trusted.
In this scripture Paul is talking to the church at Philippi and assuring them that the God who started a good work in them will bring it to completion. What work did God start in them? He brought salvation to them through His Son Jesus Christ. With confidence, Paul tells this body of believers that God, who gave them salvation, will continue to work with them until the day of Jesus Christ, which is when we will become perfect. As followers of Christ we start out with justification; salvation through Christ. Then we go through a continual process of sanctification as we are growing in Christ and finally we receive our glorification. At that time we are presented to God as blameless. Paul had complete confidence in God to finish what He started in the Philippian church.
In what or who do you place your confidence? If your confidence has been in the Stock Market recently, where will you turn if it crashes? Maybe you put your trust in people. What do you do when they disappoint you and perhaps leave you? What if God gives you a task to start a new church and a virus spreads throughout the land and you have to put the mission on hold. These are just a few of the issues the world is facing at this time. If your confidence is in Jesus Christ, you can be sure He is going to stay with you throughout this whole ordeal and you will emerge a much stronger person than when you started out on this journey.
Psalm 20:7 “ Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord.”
Make a list of things in your life that make you feel secure. Then ask yourself what you would do if those things or people disappeared. Is your confidence in God strong enough to see you through the loss?
